How Pipeline Report works
Methodology
What we count, where it comes from, and what it doesn’t prove.
What we count
Active commits are players currently listed on RinkNet’s college commitments list, credited to the team RinkNet shows as their current team. A team’s number goes up when one of its players commits and down if a commitment drops off the list. Dropped commitments are flagged as “disappeared” in our database, never deleted.
Active commits measure recruiting interest. They are not proof a player made an NCAA roster: Not roster-verified
The leaderboard ranks junior teams with at least one active commit. Teams with the same count share a rank (shown as “T”); within a tie, teams are ordered by Division I commits, then by name.
Coming next: roster-verified advancements
Once a commitment’s start season begins, we check that player against the school’s published roster and mark it verified, with the source link. Our planned headline metric is verified Division I advancements per season, averaged over three seasons, alongside each team’s commit-to-roster conversion rate.
Sources
- RinkNet / collegecommitments.com: the commitments list (also used by College Hockey Inc.). Fetched once a day.
- RinkNet’s women’s list (collegecommitments.com, women’s commits): fetched once a day and kept fully separate from the men’s data.
- RinkNet player cards: the card that opens when you click a player’s name on either list. Fetched once a week, Sunday night, about one request every 2–3 seconds.
- OHL, WHL and QMJHL team lists: official league team names, so CHL teams match consistently.
- NAHL college commitments page: stored separately. It lists the 2025-26 class (D1 and D3), not current commits, so it will feed the planned advancement metric rather than the launch number.
What we store
Facts only: player name, position, school, current team, commit date and start season. We don’t copy page layouts or text, we don’t publish player photos, and we link back to the source.
Player profiles add the facts on RinkNet’s player card: age, birth year (never the full date of birth), height, weight, position, shooting or catching hand, upcoming games and, for men, RinkNet’s season stats, unchanged. A missing fact is left out, not guessed. RinkNet doesn’t list season stats for women, so women’s profiles have none.
Women’s section
The women’s section uses its own list, teams, leagues and counts; nothing is merged with the men’s numbers. It ranks club, U19, prep, provincial U18 AAA and CEGEP teams (70 teams with active commits) by active commits, then name. National team and camp rosters (USA Hockey camp and festival teams, Sweden U18, Alberta U18) and players with no team listed are shown but not ranked. RinkNet’s women’s list has no NCAA division, so women’s pages have no Div. I column. League codes we can’t identify with confidence are shown as RinkNet’s code.
Divisions and names
“Div. I” means the school appears on RinkNet’s Division I filter. Anything else is labeled Non-D1.
Team names are matched through an alias table. CHL names are matched to official league team lists. Players with no current team listed still appear in the weekly feed but aren’t credited to any team.
How updates work
The site is rebuilt once a day, around 6:15 AM ET: we read the source lists, rebuild every page, and publish. Each page shows when the data was last updated. If the daily refresh hasn’t run for more than 30 hours, pages show a notice saying the numbers may be out of date.
Player profiles refresh once a week, Sunday night. Games already played are dropped at each daily rebuild; game times are as RinkNet lists them, local to the game. If a profile’s card is more than 8 days old, the page says so.
Last data run: . 846 rows read from RinkNet.
Privacy
Pages load no trackers or third-party fonts, and the only third-party script is a visit counter: we count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and collects no personal data. Everything else is served from this site. Where a page shows an Instagram post, it appears as a click-to-load placeholder: nothing is requested from Instagram or Meta until you tap “Load post.” If you tick “Always load Instagram posts on this device,” your browser stores a single flag in localStorage and loads posts as they scroll into view. Untick it to clear the flag. Nothing is stored on our side.
Player profiles of anyone who may be under 18 ask search engines not to index them (noindex) and are left out of our sitemap. We judge by birth year only: a profile becomes indexable from the first rebuild in the year the player turns 19, and a profile with no birth year stays hidden. The pages are still reachable from their team pages here.
